2011 Essay Contest Winner
The St. Thomas More Society of San Francisco, an organization of Catholic judges and attorneys, announced the winners of its annual essay contest for 8th grade students in the parochial schools of the Archdiocese.
The topic the students were given was:
St. Thomas More was known as "A Man for All Seasons". During his life he was a scholar, an author, a lawyer, a politician, a teacher, a husband and a father. In all of his activities, he was motivated and guided by the unfailing moral compass in his life, his Catholic faith.
Twenty years from now you will have made important life choices about a career, possibly married life or religious life, and involvement in your community. What do you currently anticipate those major life and career decisions might be, and using St. Thomas More as a model, how might your Catholic faith impact those decisions?
There were more than 100 essays submitted by the schools that participated. The winning essay was written by Angelina Rubino of Holy Angels School in Colma. Her winning essay is attached. The Society awarded her a prize of $500 and a matching gift to her school of $500. Angelina and her teacher Kathi Lee and her mother were guests at the Society’s Christmas luncheon on December 8th and Angelina read her winning essay to a crowd of more than 40 judges and attorneys.
